In the nearby Judith Mountains the Warm Spring Creek Mining District was created. For a brief time, mineral wealth was created that brought its commerce to live side by side with the small, but flourishing Lewistown.
Early development came from a diversified cross section of pragmatic, though visionary thinkers. Early Metis settlers; defining the town, cattlemen; looking for new lands, miners; seeking fortunes, stone-cutters; building buildings, and fortunately, a young photographer by the name of William H. Culver captured the progress of a growing city and its neighboring communities.
Located in the Judith Mountains, Maiden was home to one of Mr. Culver's first photographic studios. Throughout the Judiths and surrounding mountains other mining camps came to life, with names such as Andersonville, Gilt Edge, and Alpine. A rich and carefully documented photographic history was created by "Billy" Culver's tireless and attentive eye.
