The Maginnis, the Spotted Horse, the Cumberland , the Collar and of course, the Gilt Edge mines were all carefully documented by Maiden's, and later, Lewistown's premiere photographer, William H. Culver.
In 1886 Maiden enjoyed the typical business establishments one might expect in a new and thriving mining town. Certainly the Messg. Fell and Vrooman, the proprietors of the Mineral Argus believed their town would prosper. These early mining towns had their meat-markets and bakerys, their news stands, barbershops, hotels and livery stables, but Maiden had more, it had Gold! More than 30 million dollars of gold and silver left the state during 1880-1898.
